Brief CV

After his Ph.D. in Economics, Martin Ruckes was an assistant professor of finance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's School of Business. His main research interest is in the role of institutions in achieving an efficient allocation of financial capital in an economy. Specifically, his research covers various issues in the areas of corporate finance, banking and fund management. In his research he combines aspects of management with the impact of activities of individuals and institutions on society. He is a co-organizer of the triannual Symposium on Finance, Banking and Insurance taking place in Karlsruhe as well as a member of the editorial board of "Die Betriebswirtschaft".

Upon returning to Germany in 2007, he took on the role of main supervisor of Ph.D. students. Currently, six students are working towards their Ph.D. degrees under his supervision. The research areas of these theses include venture capital finance, hedge funds and secondary private markets. When completed, all of the theses currently in progress will display a high standard of academic rigor and are designed to withstand the scrutiny of an international academic audience. All of his students have been abroad for various periods of time to deepen their understanding of the knowledge of their fields and beyond as well as to exchange ideas with researchers and practitioners from all over the world.
